Every now and then, someone with Unique abilities who has harnessed it to profiting comes my way.
This time around Our #TheInspiredDream is a Gospel Singer who is a Praise and Worship Leader in Daystar Christian Center, Ikeja Lagos. He recently released his debut single ‘Maa Serere’ a song that has since been listened to on air by several music lovers around the globe. Our interviewee this episode is no other than Adebayo Adekoya also known as bayosings.
He started his music career in 1998 in Ibadan at Christ Life Church(Sword of the Spirit Ministries). He has an amazing beginning story. Listen to him, “I was in the youth choir, and so one Sunday service our pastor asked the youth choir to sing and after our administration. The Pastor ordered us to join the Main Church Choir. Not long after then, the Choir Mistress came one Sunday morning and asked me as a young man to go and lead Praise Worship for that Sunday Service, it was a huge risk for her but she obeyed God but God had also prepared me for such an emergency. From there on the ‘young’ began to lead worship in that local church of 700 seater.”
“After 4 years, I moved to the headquarters of the Church to join the choir there. It was a serious battle as they didn’t want me to leave.”
That was how the journey began for Adebayo, but there has been lots of challenges along the way. On how is is able to balance his job and music career, he says “a lot of sacrifice is involve. I have to work during the week and do my job excellently, so I do not have much time for music, but what I do is to make use of my nights for music preparations, also because it is a gift and there is passion for it. It doesn’t look stressful to me.”
The famous scripture that says ‘the gift of a man makes room for him and brings him before great men’ comes to mind. As a family man, he tries to carry his family along with his plans and schedules so that they know what’s going on, but he also creates time for them.
There were times he wanted to give up. Yes! “Especially when I came to Lagos and I joined Daystar choir since 2008 and it looked like I will just be among the whole choir, but something kept on telling me that my time will soon come and I should be patient. I deliberated on leaving for a smaller church where my talent will be appreciated, but the Spirit of God didn’t allow me to go.” He says.
He reiterates, “God told me to pick up a job close to church so I can fulfill my music ministry. Also, to leverage on some known singers in Church and get close to them. That was how God help me to breakthrough and be noticed in choir that I have something to offer in music.”
Bayosings, as he is known in some parlance recently launched a website which is one that you should check out. It’s live at www.adebayoadekoya.com
Adebayo sees himself being more relevant in music ministry and aims at building a brand like that of Integrity Music sometime in the nearest future. His role models in Music are Yomi Ajayi, Soji Isreal, Nathaniel Bassey, Donnie Mcclurckin, Mavin Sapp, Kurt Carr, Kirk Franklin, Don Moen, Ron Kenoly and Hillsong. In other fields, his role models are Bishop David Oyedepo, Sam Adeyemi, Yemi Adetola and Funke Adejumo.
What strengths does he have? Adebayo says: “My strength in music is Praise and Worship Leading, I also write my own songs as inspired by the Holy Spirit.”
