Seeing people create amazing products out of raw materials is creative and inspiring. People who do this have unleashed their creative genius.
Our #TheInspiredDream of today is one, she is the CEO of Eftys Treats, a culinary company that makes cakes, small chops and and cookies. She is the beautifully crafted Funto Aworinde.
Funto has been in the culinary business for 5 years making sure that everyone that comes her way ‘eats their cake and has it.’
She is a graduate of Economics from Obafemi Awolowo university, Ile Ife where her business started.
She says, “Cooking and baking have always appealed to me. I preferred spending my time and money trying out new recipes to going out and socializing.”
Those recipes she tried out have turned out to create a brand for her. Today everyone wants to have a taste of her cakes not just because they are sweet, of course they are, but particularly because they are inviting. The finishing of the cake alone would make you take a leave just to visit her office at Herbert Macaulay way in Yaba area of Lagos.
Funto who also attended Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary, where she excelled in the sciences initially wanted to study Medicine, but life happened and she found herself in Estate Management where she spent two years before she later applied for a change of course to Economics until she finally landed in the culinary world.
On how she started, she said, “I had started selling cupcakes and cookies when I was in my final year. And it just grew from there; supplying some eateries with snacks and taking orders for birthday cakes.”
On whether she has worked before setting up her business, she said, “I have never had a regular 9-5 job. But with baking, it’s giving 20 or more hours of your time to clients consulting as well as doing the creative work.”
Her dream in the next few years is to have a bigger, more functional facility producing quality, customised treats on a larger scale and having a reputable training program for up-and-coming bakers.
Her company is social even though she doesn’t consider herself social. Her company is on Facebook as Efty’s Treats and Instagram as @eftystreats. She says, “I sincerely do not consider myself social. But, ironically, people see me as social.”
“My advise will be: Never give up on your dreams. Keep working at it. And watch your dreams come to life.” She concluded!
