Welcome to another episode of #TheInspiredDream. In this episode, we have a writer who is good at what he does – poetry. His name is Agbeyo Temitope. He recently graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife where he read History and international relations. He is a creative Writer, screen Writer, freelance Writer, Novelist and a Poet.
He currently writes speeches and articles for a political candidate’s campaign which cannot be disclosed because it is in a ghostwriting mode. He currently works as a Freelancer.
How did it start for him?
“I really can’t say. I used to write on my books, pieces of paper, and any surface really for as long as I can remember but I only started writing publicly on Instagram since December of 2016.”
Temmywrites, as he likes to be called says “writing is majorly about experiences. When you lack them, it is difficult to write consistently. Plus as a writer you always wonder if people look at your works and judge you by it or feel like you are exactly what you write.”
He studies people a lot which forms the basis for some of his write-ups. He says, “I’m not the most outgoing person but I get to watch and learn about people and how they feel from a distance. So I don’t have to get heartbroken to write about heartbreak. Or drink to write about hangovers. Reading the works of other poets and writers are immensely useful too. I admire @atticuspoetry on instagram the most.”
He also has some other Poets that catch his fancy any day. They include Rupi Kaur,
Nayyirah Waheed, Atticus, and Yrsa Daley-Ward. When it comes to prose, he admires David Leviathan, John Green
And Ngozi Adichie the most.
“Much like history, I believe the culture of writing is even getting more obscure than reading.” He expresses.
Temmywrites believes that many people like poetry but they don’t know because they have not been exposed to it or had the opportunity to go through it.
He says, “Not many people know they like literature because most don’t have the time to go through about 40lines of poems or over 500 pages of novels. That’s why I make mine short and concise. In order to communicate, to make people say to themselves: ‘..yes I understand how this feels. So others do too? I’m not alone!”
He says, “Communication is very important and if you have to be stuck on your phone all day, then I hope I write something you will see and like. Something that would compel you to pick up a book and go through it just for the sake of it. Not for marks or awards but just to read and write and enjoy it.”
Apart from writing, what else does Temmywrites love?
“Video games, (which are mostly football and adventure games such as FIFA, age of empires, sleeping Dogs, GTA, Assassins’ Creed) Movies and watching soccer????.” He answers.
He has this advice for young people. He says, “Don’t stop, no matter how inadequate you feel you are. Don’t stop. Continue writing till you feel you don’t feel anything anymore… And even then, write about not feeling anything anymore.”
That’s it.
